Third Party Data Breaches

December 06, 2018

This week Quora announced that a data breach may have compromised the personal information of approximately 100 million users. It appears that no financial information was compromised as part of this breach. The cause of this breach is reported to be a malicious third party.

This breach, in concert with other recent breaches, denotes the importance of being prepared for ever evolving cyberthreats.

Headlines including the words “malicious third parties,” “unauthorized parties,” and “third party vulnerabilities” have seen a steady uptick in 2018, and this trend is projected to continue as we head into 2019. Gartner forecasts information security spending to surpass $124 billion next year.

To have a closer look at how such breaches may impact your business, Ponemon (sponsored by IBM) provides an insightful Cost of data breach calculator illustrating potential monetary impact based on footprint, industry, and numerous additional factors.
